SOCCER RULES FOR PARENTS - click here
THE OFFSIDE RULE
A player is in an offside position, when, within the opponent’s half, he finds himself behind the last opposing defender (hence between the other team’s keeper and last defender) at the moment the ball is played to him (not when the ball reaches him, but when the ball is actually played/sent to him or in his direction).
A player is in an offside position if they are nearer to the opposition's goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.
You can't be offside if: you receive the ball directly from a goal kick, a throw-in or a corner
you are in your own half of the pitch
you are level with the second last or last two opponents
You will notice that in theory, the referee doesn’t call an offside position, if the ball is not played to the player in the offside position; hence, the play will only get whistled down, if the player in the offside position influences the play. Furthermore, you will probably notice that the referee may seem to make late calls. This is due to a new variance of the rule, where the referee and his assistants only flag the offside when the player in the offside position actually touches the ball.
Still confused:

It takes you through animated examples, will make you wonder what all the mystery was about.
BILLY RAE

Peninsula Strikers Junior FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Billy Rae as our new Director of Coaching. Billy has spent a lifetime in around soccer, from his early years as a budding professional player in Scotland continuing with his move to Australia and his involvement with one of Melbourne’s power teams of the 1970’s the famous Melbourne Hakoah. Stints with a number of Victorian State league teams followed and it was at one such club, Box Hill that Billy first entered the realms of coaching, gaining his Senior coaching badge which he has retained for more than 30years.
Over the years Billy has helped build and develop a number of Southern Metropolitan region Senior Clubs including most recently Seaford United.
However he has also gained a reputation as a highly regarded Junior Coach evidenced by his involvement in the region’s summer academy football (soccer). In the past four years he has not only helped develop children that either are or have played representative football but he has also toured and competed in both North America and the UK with Soccer Academy rep teams.
As Billy and his wife Irene life in Australia has prospered their most cherished achievements have grown with them. Billy is now the proud patriarch to 3 children and 14 grandchildren and it has been through these younger links that Billy has also been involved in nurturing the newest additions to Victoria’s football family.
The committee and members of Peninsula Strikers JFC look forward to benefiting from Billy’s vast footballing knowledge and sincerely welcome him to the club.
