If you know anyone that has played for the club and want to send us a brief story, please send an email to webmaster@peninsula.org.au
The following article was recently received from an ex-player (Iain Macleod). Thank you for the story. It would be great to get more stories like that and grow this section.
By Iain Macleod
I joined Peninsula soccer club in 1970 as a 13year old, asked to join by a couple of school friends. The team was hopeless having lost most games the previous season, some of the games by as much as twenty to nil. The year I joined we went from losing 20-0 to around on average two to three nil. With hard work , comradery and dedication by a couple of the fathers, the following year we actually won 50% of our games. The team was bonding well and a couple of the parents took us to Sydney to play against some Sydney representative sides which was fun and showed us a thing or two. (two parents chaperoning 13 boys, probably not allowed these days)
The best was in 1972, we finally had a home ground that a farmer let us use, he let us use one of his cow paddocks on his farm on Cranbourne Rd. near where now stands the Karingal Hub Shopping Centre, there were some fun times doing a slide tackle in cow patties. In 1972 the under 15's were a force to be reckoned with, winning most cups and the league with an impressive statistic that I'm not sure has ever been equaled. I think the key to our success was not that we had exceptionally good players, because we didn't, but rather the fact that we bonded and played as a team, recognizing our weaknesses and instead with everyone playing to our strength's.
Statistics:
| Played | 18 |
| Won | 17 |
| Lost | 1 |
| For | 153 |
| Against | 9 |
Unfortunately Peninsula didn't have a senior team so the team disbanded and we went our separate ways, most joining other local senior clubs.
